I'm Ayana owner of True Massage & Bodywork. I founded #SpaBizSuccess for one simple reason: I know what it feels like to be you.

When I started my mobile massage business, it was a side hustle to my 9-to-5 job. When that first launch flopped because I couldn't manage "all the things", I decided to take a break from it until I “figured things out”.

At that time, I thought I could count on my chiropractic clinic gig and my position at a fast paced spa for financial security…

That was until the pandemic hit.

Like millions in 2020, I lost my job at the spa and eventually had no choice but to move back in with my mom. I had to work a myriad of unfulfilling desk jobs just to get by.

But the more these desk jobs weren't my passion, and I kept thinking about the time when I quit my mobile massage business. During the pandemic I found I regained the confidence to give my business another shot.

In my first attempt to restart my spa biz, I watched YouTube tutorials and followed industry influencers to figure out what I should do to get to their level of success.

But none of their tips worked for me in today’s marketplace. So, I decided to try something different:

I decided to take what I've learned from working in sales behind the desk at a fast-paced franchise spa, and what I learned from management, operations, back in 2015. Working front desk led me to a career in massage therapy and now it would help me in my business. 

I invested in more sales coaching, invested in coaching from traditional business owners like Morgan Debaun and others -

and I got down to work.

 

I applied what I learned from her mentorship, my experience working closely with spa operation managers, and my over 7 years of spa and hospitality experience. In the first 3 months, I hired my first employee and made $36,432 – enough to leave my 9-to-5 and cover my yearly salary at that time. Soon I had the confidence to go all in:

In this journey I learned so many lessons that I had to share with others. I started a Youtube channel, shared my journey, my knowledge, and focused on expanding my business.
